Here at Capita we are looking to expand our friendly and supportive Local Government Services team by bringing on board another Council tax Officer. Based at home you would be responsible for dealing with calls and emails from council tax clients regarding their accounts and payments. You would maintain the databases that we use, ensure that queries are assigned to the right teams where you aren’t able to resolve it for them and that all customers receive a first-class service.

We are looking for someone with a passion customer service, someone with previous experience of working with the public and someone who is able to communicate well both over the telephone and via email. In return you will work for a business that values personal development and champions their staff to achieve as much as they can, you would also work in a fully home-based role supported by a remote team and given full training for the role.

Job Description

What you’ll be doing:

  • Investigate computer records (Academy One Revenues and Benefits) and interrogate customer’s accounts to maximise collection of Council Tax for Bexley Council.

  • Be responsible for dealing with, and responding to, written and verbal enquiries from members of the public, using a document imaging system (Anite), EGWM and working to procedures and guidelines

  • Deal with and respond to customers over the telephone when needed.

  • Negotiate arrangements in writing, on the phone, for payment of debts

  • Ensure accounts are progressed through the recovery cycle from reviewing housekeeping lists

  • Promoting direct debit, e-billing and self service to the customer

  • Investigate records and liaise with outside agencies to locate debtors who have moved

  • A good level of Maths and English

  • Computer literate

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and tactfully with all levels

  • Professional approach.

  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

  • Good organisational skills.
