The CHKS Top Hospitals Awards celebrate the success of healthcare providers across the UK and internationally, and include categories for patient safety, quality of care, data quality and healthcare efficiency.
The CHKS Top Hospitals Awards were held in London on 12 June and hosted by ITV News medical correspondent Sue Saville.
Northern Health and Social Care Trust received the Patient Safety Award for outstanding performance in providing patients with a safe hospital environment. The award is based on indicators including rates of hospital-acquired infections and mortality.
Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust was the winner of the Quality of Care Award. The award was made on the basis of performance in a number of areas including the length of time patients stay in hospital and rate of emergency re-admissions.
Data Quality Awards recognise the importance of clinical coding and data quality, and the essential role it plays in ensuring appropriate patient care. This year's Data Quality Awards were given to Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust (England, Wales and Northern Ireland), Spire Bristol Hospital for the independent sector and the Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in the specialist category.
Winner of the Healthcare Efficiency Award was Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust won the Patient Experience Award. A new award for Most Improved Trust was given to Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.
CHKS also celebrates overall excellence in trusts across the UK. The Top Hospitals Award is given to the top 40 trusts based on the evaluation of over 20 key performance indicators which cover safety, clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care.
In addition, The Children’s Trust was the winner of its Quality Improvement Award. This international award is open to all healthcare organisations accredited by CHKS in 2018 and recognises significant improvements in patient care and patient experience as well as staff welfare, safety and morale.
