So far, the team at Capita has filled 70 rucksacks full of clothes, food and toiletries which will be shared with the Barnsley Church Drop In Project next week

The team at Capita’s Dearne Valley office has been working hard to fill 70 rucksacks full to the brim with clothes, food and toiletries for local homeless people. Any further local donations from across the area are welcome to be dropped off at the office over the next week to help make a difference to homeless people this Christmas as the cold weather sets in.

Each rucksack prepared by the Capita employees contains a full set of clothes including socks, underwear and a coat, a flask, food, toiletries and a sleeping bag. If you have any spare clothing such as coats and socks or you would like to donate toiletries or food then please bring them to Capita’s Dearne Valley office by next Thursday (14 December).

The following items are most needed by the charity:

  • Coffee
  • Warm socks
  • Sleeping bags
  • Flasks

“It’s been great to have the support of local businesses to help us fill these rucksacks and we’re asking for anyone else who wants to get involved in this charity drive to drop off any donations at our office by next Thursday morning.”

Adie Flute from The Rucksack Project Barnsley, said: "We are 100% reliant on the generosity of local residents, schools, colleges, organisations, clubs, and businesses like Capita. Without such astounding efforts and great kindness The Rucksack Project would quite simply cease to be, and a great many people would be that bit worse off this winter. We are extremely grateful to everybody at Capita for all their hard work and generosity, both in this year's campaign and previous years, and we know that this kindness will make a real and positive difference to real people who are finding life particularly tough right now. Thank you to everybody for everything you have done for the project."

Many local businesses have already offered support to the Capita team’s charity drive, including such as Morrisons, Wilko, Tesco, Outdoor Mountaineering Shop and Barnsley GMB.

The charity drive is for the Barnsley Church Drop-in Project which is a charity based in Barnsley town centre which runs three two-hour sessions per week to provide hot food, drinks, toiletries, warm clothing and bedding to the homeless, addicted and impoverished in Barnsley. The charity serves over 300 meals per week and has seen this figure increase dramatically over recent years.

The Capita Dearne Valley site is home to employees from Capita Customer Management which is the UK’s leading provider of outsourced customer management services. The business has more than 100 million customer conversations every year, on every channel, across the globe.
