Wellbeing in the City – the learning tool developed for Samaritans by Brightwave, part of Capita – won gold in the External Learning Solution of the Year Category at the Learning and Performance Institute’s annual Learning Awards.

The awards recognise outstanding examples of high standards, best practice, innovation and excellence in learning and development.

In a ceremony attended by 400 guests and finalists, Brightwave’s director of design, Caroline Freeman, and client director, Analyn Pelayre, accepted the award on behalf of Brightwave and Samaritans, which was presented by Strictly Come Dancing‘s Claudia Winkleman.

The winning interactive video learning tool, Wellbeing in the City, uses emotionally engaging interactive video to share Samaritans’ 65 years of active listening experience, with the aim of creating workplaces where employees feel supported and no one has to cope alone.

The Learning Award judges said:

“The team carefully approached the design of the tool and the content, understanding the breadth of audience and the complexity of tackling mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. They have achieved artful simplicity in the Tool, and real emotional connection with the narrative and scenarios. And the results so far clearly evidence that they got the balance right.”

The Learning Solution of the Year Award marks an exceptional award season for Brightwave, who previously won Gold for Compliance at the Learning Technologies Awards and the Best Immersive Learning Award at DevLearn in Las Vegas.

“There’s a real feeling at the moment that mental and emotional health is being discussed and taken more seriously. People understand the importance of helping their staff through difficult times. Wellbeing in the City gives businesses the tools to do that – a practical route to a more supportive workplace.” Ruth Sutherland, Samaritans CEO
