As a Planning Consultant you will work within our national Capita Local Public Services growth team. This team works on a number of commissions across the UK and is expected to grow significantly in the coming years as part of our transformation and growth plans.

This role will require a versatile planning professional who can readily respond to the needs of our clients, which as required is likely to involve support across the wider business including Planning Policy, Development Management and Enforcement.

This role is predominantly conducted as a home worker, but with limited travel to customers and our national Capita hubs as and when required.

Job Description

What you'll be doing :

  • Working with our clients and partner Councils, you will be required to work flexibly on a range of projects across strategic planning and development management including Local and Neighbourhood Plans and supporting evidence, Supplementary Planning Documents, Infrastructure Delivery Plans, Monitoring Reports and planning applications.
  • You will provide high quality professional advice and direction on planning matters as required by the client, which may also include liaising with developers/agents and key stakeholders.
  • Supporting consultation and engagement activities, to include coordination and review of public consultation representations.
  • Ability to integrate and work successfully as part of a team as well as manage own workload effectively and efficiently.
  • You will also be accountable for the successful delivery of planning commissions ensuring they are delivered in line with bid expectations to a consistently high standard, reporting regularly to line management on progress and key milestones.
  • Supporting the growth of the team and working to make a positive contribution towards business development as required.

What we're looking for :

  • Degree qualified Town Planner or equivalent experience (essential). Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute desirable but not essential.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role, with experience working as a private or public sector planning officer/consultant (preferably planning policy).
  • A good level of knowledge, understanding and application of current and emerging UK planning legislation.
  • Be concise and possess the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Well organised and efficient with a positive attitude.
  • Be proactive and solve problems to produce well balanced outcomes.
  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to work alone on projects where required as well as contributing and adding value to team projects.
