Capita are seeking a Claims Assessor to join one of our key Life & Pensions accounts on a full time, permanent basis.
As a Claims Assessor, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting our most vulnerable customers at their time of need. You'll be assessing and managing disability claims for Income Protection, Critical Illness, and Waiver of Premium. Your expertise will guide these customers through challenging times, providing them with the support they need.
We’re seeking an individual with a strong foundation of experience in the Life & Pensions industry, and an excellent grasp of the full range of IP, CI, and Life products. Whilst full training will be provided, prior knowledge of the claims process would be highly advantageous. If you already have practical experience in assessing Life claims, or a medical background then we’d certainly like to hear from you too!
This role calls for someone with a compassionate and mature attitude, as you will often interact with customers facing potentially life-changing events. You will get the satisfaction of supporting them through their time of need, though you’ll also need the resilience for tougher conversations.
The position offers the flexibility of hybrid working, mainly from home, with occasional visits to our Swindon or Cheltenham office. Therefore, it's essential you reside within a commutable distance of either location. Hours will be 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday.

Job Description
What will you deliver?
Assess and manage Disability claims for Waiver of Premium, Income Protection and Critical Illness.
Deliver accurate, efficient, and quality service according to CLPS service level agreements and audit feedback.
Interpret policy terms, medical evidence, and financial accounts to determine claim validity.
Provide clear and robust justifications for decisions and liaise with third parties, including CMO, reassurers, and client contacts.
Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to manage claimant expectations and uphold Capita's high standards.
Support a proactive approach to claim management through telephone communication for claim clarification and triage.
Mentor less experienced team members by sharing knowledge and experience.
Handle complaints and appeals or develop skills to manage them effectively.
Demonstrate strong questioning skills in both written and oral communication to achieve desired outcomes.
What are we looking for?
A strong knowledge of the full range of Life products, including Income Protection, Critical Illness, and Waiver Of Premium.
Previous experience in medical claims and/or a medical background would be advantageous, however training will be provided.
A prior knowledge of the claims processes associated with Life products.
A mature and compassionate attitude, able to converse with vulnerable customers, and a passion for delivering excellent customer service and claim management.
A commitment to professional development, both within the competencies of the role and researching medical conditions, and potentially towards professional qualifications.
Some experience in complaint and appeal handling would be preferable.
Able to work effectively in a wider team, including other Claims Assessors, Underwriters, and Claims Administrators.

A starting salary of between £26,800 and £35,700, dependent on experience.
