Capita has successfully rebid to deliver business rates collection for Brent Council for a further five years, with a potential three-year extension, following a competitive tender.

In a deal worth up to £3million over the full life of the contract, Capita will continue to collect up to £137 million in business rates from over 9,000 businesses in the borough.

Mark Chapman, Regional Director, Capita Local Public Services, said: “We are really proud of the service we have delivered for Brent Council, which has created much-needed efficiencies for our client.

“The extension of this contract is testament to the strength of our partnership and to Capita’s renewed focus on delivering transactional support services in the local government market.”

Capita has delivered the service for Brent since 2003, which has helped secure efficiencies while improving collection rates. Before Capita started its contract, the council’s collection rate was 94.7%. Rates have increased year on year since, reaching 98.6% in 2017/2018.

The contract aligns to Capita’s strategy for local public services, and closely follows its recent win with Westminster City Council. Through this strategy, Capita will be making significant investments in the development of technology-enabled and scalable solutions, which help to deliver core public services and add value to customers.

These standardised, technology-enabled solutions will focus on Capita’s key areas of strength and expertise, such as payments and collections, regulatory services, customer management and other back-office services. In line with market feedback, these solutions will be offered in more flexible ways, to best meet the needs of clients.
