Moving Ahead offers cross-company mentoring programmes which aim to build a pipeline for talented individuals from under-represented backgrounds within the workplace.
Capita was awarded ‘Most Dynamic Mentoring Organisation’ in 2023 and 2024 at the Inspired by Mentoring Awards in recognition of our commitment to mentoring.
Capita colleagues have paired with mentors and mentees from 68 companies around the globe and committed approximately 6,460 hours to the Moving Ahead programmes.
Cross-company, campaign-led mentoring programmes
Mission Gender Equity focuses on building and strengthening pipelines to achieve parity for women in leadership roles, by offering mentoring to emerging women leaders. To date, 100 mentors and 100 mentees from Capita have benefitted from this programme, with 20 colleagues enrolled in the latest cohort.
Mission Gender Equity reports a higher than average promotion rate for mentees, with 20% achieving a promotion during the programme (twice the average promotion rate for women in the UK). Additionally, one-third of mentees have been promoted within two years of completing the programme.
Mission Include focuses on enhancing leadership representation for diverse talent and is open to mentees from underrepresented groups. The current cohort of 20 join the previous 160 colleagues who have completed the programme.
Surveys conducted by Moving Ahead during Mission Include 2022/23 reveal:
- 47% of mentees were promoted, moved roles or saw their responsibilities expand
- 70% of mentees saw an increase in their confidence following mentoring
- 78% of mentees reported learning new skills and ways to change their behaviours
- 45% of mentors now act as vocal advocates for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) in their workplaces
Through the Moving Ahead programme, I am looking to enhance my leadership skills and gain valuable insights. I see this as a fantastic opportunity to learn from seasoned mentors and prepare myself for future career challenges.
Reflecting back, it was quite late in my career when I found an amazing mentor who made a significant impact on my professional journey. This experience underscored the importance of having a mentor and motivated me to become one myself. Being a mentor has provided a platform to share my professional journey, including the successes and the lessons learned from setbacks. It's been rewarding to see the professional and personal growth in my mentees.
We continue to partner with Moving Ahead to champion high-potential women and individuals from underrepresented groups through the cross-company mentoring opportunities. In 2024, we proudly enrolled 40 colleagues in these global programmes, strengthening our commitment to inclusivity. Our dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) has been recognised with two prestigious awards. We were honoured as the Most Dynamic Mentoring Organisation of the Year 2023-2024, celebrating our DEI initiatives. Additionally, one of our Senior Leaders was named the Most Inspiring Mentor of the Year 2023-2024 for his exceptional leadership and impactful mentoring relationships. These accolades highlight our commitment to creating a supportive and diverse workplace, where every colleague has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.
