RE:NEW, the Mayor of London’s retrofitting programme to make London’s homes more energy efficient, has been named Large Scale Project of the Year at the National Energy Efficiency and Healthy Homes Awards.
The award recognises the nature, scope and scale of retrofitting projects, as well as the impact the project has had within the local community.
RE:NEW is helping to achieve the Mayor‘s ambitious target to make London a zero carbon city by 2050. Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure has been the lead delivery partner on the project since 2013, and has been working closely with the Greater London Authority to design, develop and deliver the pan-London programme.
Since 2014, the third phase of RE:NEW has enabled and supported energy efficiency improvements in around 28,000 homes, representing more than £100 million of energy efficiency investment.
RE:NEW helps organisations such as London boroughs, housing associations, and universities to implement retrofit projects and alleviate fuel poverty. It is doing this through the:
- RE:NEW Support Team, an expert team providing the end to end support needed to get projects up, running and successfully implemented.
- RE:NEW framework of suppliers, which saves time and resources for organisations that are procuring retrofit services and works.
The award was presented by Comedian Sir Lenny Henry at an award ceremony at the Birmingham NEC on Friday night.
Shirley Rodrigues, Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy, said: "More than 130,000 London homes have benefited from the RE:NEW retrofitting programme, saving £8.85m in annual energy bills and lowering emissions.
I am delighted the scheme has been recognised nationally as an exceptional large-scale project. The Mayor is committed to making London a zero carbon city by 2050 and programmes like RE:NEW are key to helping us meet this ambition and reduce fuel poverty."
