Medical records assessor, Becky, shares how since joining Capita, she has more work life balance than she could possibly imagine. We spoke to her about her career journey, how supported she’s felt since joining the team eight months ago, and why she’s really enjoying being trusted to get on with her role.
I joined Capita eight months ago as a medical records assessor for the clinical scrutiny team. In my role, I make sure that applicants for the Army meet a certain standard of medical fitness in order to be accepted into basic Army training.
The flexibility of my daily working is summed up by the trust my manager gives me. The whole scrutiny team has been 100% supportive since my journey began in October 2023 when I started initial training. I’ve learnt so much despite working from home, which I didn't believe would be quite as effective, but certainly seems to have been so far!
I’ve had non-stop daily access to communication via Teams and/or email from my mentor and manager. I also had a buddy when I first started, which was positive as it meant there was time each week to discuss any concerns or questions about the role. I’m really enjoying my job and I know I still have a lot to learn. My goal is in early 2025 to have started on an additional qualification provided by Capita for personal and professional development.
Work life balance
I’ve found it much easier to support my own wellbeing through working at Capita. I’ve worked for other organisations in the past, where I found it difficult to balance work and homelife, especially with a young family and my husband in the military.
The working environment here is very supportive and understanding of all different types of personal circumstances, which is reflected in the flexible working. For me, this plays a huge positive as my circumstances at home with childcare arrangements can change last minute due to my husband’s responsibility and role within the armed forces. Working from home has enabled me to be more present in my home life as it has taken out the stresses of extra childcare, travel and alternate arrangements that I needed previously in order to be able to manage my own career alongside my husband’s, and being a present parent to my children.
Exciting and challenging
I really enjoy my role as a medical records assessor; it’s great to work for a leading global organisation whose focus is on the growth and development of its people. So far, I’ve encountered some weird and wonderful medical conditions that I'd never heard of previously, which has been a great opportunity to learn as I work on a daily basis.
My favourite aspect of the role so far is the trust implemented by my manager. Then there are the benefits and extras provided as standard from the company. The amount of further development and learning available to all staff, and wholly supported by management, benefits all of us.
